Scripture: Titus 3:9 – But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.
Observation: Is missing out on an important relationship worth an argument over the law.
Application: This scripture is meant to help us to stay away from petty arguments that can cause division in fellowship. There is nothing wrong with having a healthy discussion over difficult scriptures to understand but if we use the scriptures to be agrumentative or to cause friction, aren’t we defeating its purpose.
Jesus came to show us love, grace and mercy. 1st Corithians shares what love is, love is patient, love is kind, it is not boastful, it is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1st Corithians 13:13 says And now these three remain, faith, hope, and love, but the greatest of these is love.
To fight over the law and divide because of it defies the very act of love.
I realize that we are not always going to see eye to eye on all scripture, but I do know this, Jesus says he will never leave or forsake us, shouldn’t we do the same with our brothers & sisters, our parents and children, our grandchildren, our church family?
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to mindful of others opinions and if we disagree on scripture, please Lord have the Holy Spirit engulf me and show me truth. I do not wish to turn any heart away from you out of arrogance or pride, I want to have only love, which is the greatest gift you have given me. Help me to forgive those who have caused division and help me to love them unconditionally.
