“Listen carefully: Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never any more than a grain of wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over. In the same way, anyone who holds on to life just as it is destroys that life. But if you let it go, reckless in your love, you’ll have it forever, real and eternal. (John 12:24- 25 MSG)
A seed on in the hand will forever remain just a seed. Even though the potential of filling fields is found within that seed it will stay confined to just a small seed unless it is planted. In the same way a soul without faith is contained by only what that soul can sense by physical means. Like the seed dying and becoming a plant that produces a way to reproduce our souls must die to ourselves and submit to the plan of God has for our lives.
When Jesus talks about “life” he actually uses two different Greek words, “Here Jesus uses two words for “life.” By losing one’s self (psyche) through exchanging worldly drives and motives for submission to Christ’s will, a person gains spiritual life (zoe), which is experienced here and in eternity” (BRC). The passage states that if we hold on to what we think or know we lose life, but if we let go and risk loving beyond our knowledge we gain eternal life.
Three things to let go of what you think you have to gain all that God gives:
- Let go of your past. If it is a past failure let God forgive and heal that dark part of your life with the bright light of grace. When a past success defines you it really only contains you to your abilities. Let it go and gain the glory that glorifies God.
- Let go of your present. If present fear is holding you captive let go to allow God to give you the next step in confidence. When present performence is positive may it not blind the need for the humble response to Gods leading.
- Let go of your future. If the possible outcomes become overwhelming to oneself let go to Gods unmatched peace. When the future looks bright don’t put on the shades of self confidence rather respond with eyes to see the Holy Spirit at work in your future.
Lord I choose to be buried in your grace and mercy, so that I may grow into a force that cause others to follow you. I let go of the life I know and think I have to gain the reckless life of true love. Forgive me when I try to figure out my faith. Teach me to depend on the unbelievable dreams and plans you have for my life. Bless my kids today. Lead me to lead like you. Show me how to love my bride like you want me to. Pastor my soul to pastor people. Your love keep chasing me and your grace keeps changing me. My life is yours.
