Going against the norm

John 4:9-10, The Samaritan woman, taken aback, asked, “How come you, a Jew, are asking me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?” (Jews in those days wouldn’t be caught dead talking to Samaritans.) Jesus answered, “If you knew the generosity of God and who I am, you would be asking me for a drink, and I would give you fresh, living water.”

In Jesus day the Jews and Samaritans were not good friends. They were on the opposite sides of the field. They wouldn’t have been caught dead talking to each other. So for Jesus to not only speak to the Samaritian, but to ask for a drink was outrageous. This went against the norm of the culture.

In my life I think about this when go to the grocery store or to the mall. All the people we come in contact with on a daily basis. Can I be like Jesus and speak to them no matter what. Would I step out of my comfort zone to share the living water of Jesus. Would I share the hope and joy that I’ve found in Him. I want to go against the cultural norm, I want to be like Jesus was with the Samaritan woman. He broken the mold and changed lives. He was a rebel in that day and time. He blew the doors off the norm.

Jesus I desire to blow the doors off of the norm. Give me boldness to speak life. Give me wisdom to speak no matter the situation. Help me to challenge the lives of everyone I come in contact with. Jesus thank you for saving my life. Thank you for my amazing wife, my beautiful daughters, and for the life that you have given us. I love u, Thank you, AMEN!
