Mr. Meyer & Teaching Moments

Thank you! Everything in me says “Thank you!” Angels listen as I sing my thanks. I kneel in worship facing your holy temple and say it again: “Thank you!” Thank you for your love, thank you for your faithfulness; Most holy is your name, most holy is your Word. The moment I called out, you stepped in; you made my life large with strength. (Psalm 138:1-3 MSG)

I have a neighbor named Fred. He always has what I need. In fact, everytime my kids and I venture over to Mr. Meyers he has free cookies! Yes Fred Meyers is litrerally behind my house. The bakery always has free cookies for the kids, so I use it as a teaching moment for my kids. I will pick a kid to say “May we please have a cookie?” and without fail I will need to remind them to say thank you.

How often in our lives do we forget to say thank you? Thank you Jesus for your love! That you first loved us. Thank you God for your faithfullness! That you are faithfull to us even in our unfaithfullness. Thank you Lord for your Word! That you speak deep to our hearts even when we don’t want to listen. The psalmist points out that as he called for God to step in He responds by empowering him with strength. In the same way my our graditude launch a large life impacting those we care about.

Thank you Jesus for this life I get to live. May my life make a difference in people. I desire not to have a “large life” according to my standards. I desire to live life with the strength you give. Bless my kids today, thank you that lead me to lead them. Bless my wife today with your presence. Bless HOPE today with a love for you and for your people.
