“You have your heads in your Bibles constantly because you think you’ll find eternal life there. But you miss the forest for the trees. These Scriptures are all about me ! And here I am, standing right before you, and you aren’t willing to receive from me the life you say you want. (John 5:39-40 MSG)
Ever have a conversation with someone that has the head up in their Bible? It is easy to see when they are majoring on the minors. They can’t understand where God is leading them. It is right in front of them they just need to take a step back and see the big picture.
This is so easy to see that it is frustrating. It is easy until your the one missing the forest for the trees. So focused on the tree in front of you you don’t see the two trails around the tree. Jesus came to be the light, the guide to us the detail obsessors.
Here Jesus says that we need to receive the life he is able to give. This life is not in the details but the broad brush strokes of faith and grace. Faith in the son of God grants the overwhelming all covering grace that saves. This is the forest that is so vast it will never be contained or cleared. May we take that step back and see the forest that is wild and amazing. Lets take our eyes off of the single tree of doubt.
I pray that today would be a great day at HOPE. Bless my wife and kids that they get rest from traveling. Lord I pray that we as a church see the forest.
