This Sunday we start a new theme to our Journey through the book of John Series!
In recent years there has been a growing awareness of an undeadly epidemic. The rise of zombies in pop culture has given momentum to the idea that a zombified event is possible. Even the Center of Disease Control website has campaign on preparedness for the zombie apocalypse.
The truth is that zombies are real! The fact is you may be one. You might of been one at one time! Our zombie problem does not look like a scene from “Walking Dead” nor is it solved by the love a girl like “Warm Bodies”. In our journey through the book of John we we will learn that Jesus provides the only real cure from becoming a zombie.
The Gospel tells us that we are all dead without Christ’s saving love and grace. When we’re given that love, we’re given new life—not just the promise of eternal life, but a glorious life now, which frees us to experience this world in new ways and encourages us to bring that sort of life and happiness to others.
Jesus raises his friend Lazarus from the dead showing his followers that a life following Him is the new and true life they desire. As Jesus caused the corpse to RElive we too discover we can begin to live a full life in God’s fullness.
“Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.” (John 11:43, 44 NIV)
The question we need to ask what dead or zombified aspects of our lives are in desperate need to be resurrected. May we understand what grave clothes we have in our lives and allow Jesus to free us from the confinement sin has one our lives.
We will rise up and RElive! Bringing a love that cause HOPE in the heart’s of people in our world. Building people up creating a COMMUNITY that is alive and authentic. Becoming a CHURCH that is not defined by an address but by the people leading others to RElive for the cause of CHRIST.
